Islam is the blessed religion that encompasses all aspects of life, including politics, economics, trade, morality, worship, and culture. It is a way of life rooted in the oneness of Allah, offering solutions to all of humanity’s problems and serving as the sole source of guidance, success, and prosperity.
One of the distinguishing features of Islam is its effort to connect Muslim societies with the salaf and to provide solutions for the challenges of every era through its teachings.
Throughout Islamic history, whenever we have faced material defeat, we have always emerged as a stronger and more powerful force. We have tasted the bitterness of defeat and the sweetness of resurgence, and this cycle will persist until the end of time.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) began preaching Islam relying solely on Allah’s help and support, undeterred by the challenges and hardships that came his way. Ultimately, he laid the foundation of a system that the world still struggles to replicate.
The beloved Prophet was simultaneously an Imam, a commander of the Mujahideen, a teacher of the Companions, and the messenger of Allah. He raised a generation enlightened by the Quran that reshaped history and illuminated the world with the light of Islam, dispelling the darkness of ignorance.
After the Prophet’s passing, many Arab tribes, except those in Mecca, Medina, Taif, and Bahrain, turned away from Islam. Their rebellion primarily involved refusing to pay the zakat to the government.
People were leaving Islam in groups; some even claimed prophethood. Many areas of the Arabian Peninsula fell into the hands of disbelievers. The situation became so dire that even some Companions began to lose hope, feeling distressed by the heavy losses of life and property in the wars. This scenario was even more dire than the present-day challenges.
Some Companions advised Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), saying, “O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah! We cannot fight all of Arabia. Stay at home and devote yourself to worship; do not concern yourself with these matters.”
Everyone believed that facing these circumstances was impossible, and a cloud of despair hung over the community. People had lost all hope of improvement.
During these turbulent times, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) made a decision that shook history—a declaration of courage and bravery. If this call were answered even today, it could make the world bow before it.
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) proclaimed, “Will the religion be diminished while I am alive? I will fight those people alone until my head is severed from my body, but I will not allow any reduction in the faith.”
